Web Hosting

If you are looking for hosting for your website, you may want to consider the following points:

  • Service.  Needs to be 24x7, by phone, chat, and email.
  • Disk space. Preferred unlimited.
  • Bandwidth. Depending on your needs, and preferred unlimited.
  • Email addresses.  A large number and even unlimited is preferred.
  • Control panel. The most user friendly is cPanel.  Plesk is also a good choice.
  • Domain names.  Try to get option to host unlimited number of domain names.  Also, you should be able to get the domain name registered with whom you want (not dictated by hosting company.)
  • Uptime.  Promises are all over the place, but the gold standard is usually 99.9%.
  • Price.  Most hosting companies offer similar prices for shared programs.  Prices for Virtual Private Servers (VPS) and Dedicated servers may be all over the map.  The price will be irrelevant if you have technical issues or availability issues with your service.
  • SSL and fixed IP address.  Important if you are hosting your own shopping cart and or plan on email marketing campaigns.  If hosting company does not offer SSL you can get one cheaply from GoDaddy.com.
  • Hosting plans.  Shared, Reseller, VPS, Dedicated.  Depending on your needs. estimated traffic, and other performance measures.

Real X has been working with many web hosting companies and we have finally settled on one we feel is probably the best we have found.

Host Gator meets the criteria above, and even more.  This is the hosting company where Real X is hosting its own servers.  The service is 24x7, top notch, and all (infrequent) issue are readily resolved.

Real X is an affiliate of Hostgator, and that is the hosting service we recommend to our many clients.

Domain Names

Here the choice is almost obvious (and not because of the NASCAR ads they run).

We recommend GoDaddy because of price, ease of managing your domains, protecting them and transfering to/from other registrars.
